Deshaies Cove

All round view - Deshaies

From a rocky headland, the coastline penetrates inland, carving out a deep bay whose banks are home to the village of Deshaies in Guadeloupe (French West Indies). Once a theater of intense combat, the bay is now considered one of the most beautiful of the leeward coast, offering unforgettable sunsets. Contrasting with the bustle of the businesses and restaurants on its shores, these calm, serene waters seem to perpetually doze in their peaceful hollow. Deshaies Cove offers the safety of its deep waters, sheltered by surrounding hills, to fishermen and pleasure-boaters alike. This popular scuba-diving spot also provides magnificent anchorage to cruise ships. Adjacent to the fishing port, near the mouth of the Deshaies River, with its footbridge, there is a small beach where a few small boats await. Sailing, sea kayaking, big-game fishing, sea excursions, excursions to explore cetacean habitats… are all among the activities that may be enjoyed here. In addition, the commune, which has made tourism a strong driver of its economic development, also regularly welcomes cruise ships, such as the Club Med 2, making Deshaies Guadeloupe’s third-largest cruise-ship landing, just behind Pointe-à-Pitre and Terre-de-Haut.
