Water area - Saint-Louis

This site is an important one, both ecologically and socio-economically (hunting, fishing, fresh water source, etc.). The Conseil Général maintains a public irrigation system here, made up of an 80,000-m3 storage dam, a pump station, and a water distribution network used to irrigate approximately 20 hectares of land cultivated by famers and market gardeners.
Across the road lies the former Grand Bassin Sugar Plantation, established in 1827. The tower mill, a small-stone masonry structure coated in whitewash, has three arched openings of dressed stone.
