Oceanfront

All round view - Basse-Terre

Among the many improvements that have shaped the city’s contours, the oceanfront is among the most spectacular. As early as the 1960s and 1970s, the city cleared oceanfront property to build a road between Basse-Terre and Côte-Sous-Le-Vent. In 1994, efforts were made to protect the shoreline by installing a breakwater of loose boulders and creating a Stroll from the Galion River to the suburb of Baillif, opening up the city to the shoreline. Today this pleasant gathering place is loved by young and old alike, a wonderful area for strolling and attending cultural and athletic events.
