Bielle Distillery

Local Product - Grand-Bourg

Originally built as a sugar refinery in 1826 by Nicolas and Maximilien Bielle, this operation was sold to Messieurs Espanet et Cie in 1857, then integrated into what was then a 52-hectare estate in 1868. The property changed hands numerous times between 1882 and 1955, when the residence and distillery were bought by Paul Rameaux. The sugar refinery became a distillery in 1910.
Since 1975, the operation has been managed by the Société d'Exploitation de la Distillerie Bielle (SEDB, the Bielle Distillery Management Company) whose current director is Dominique Thiéry, great nephew of Paul Rameaux. The distillery produces 120,000 of rum per year, bottled at 59% alcohol.
