Caribbean Mountains

Landscape - Gourbeyre

The 1,370-hectare Caribbean Mountains, crossing the communes of Gourbeyre, Vieux-Fort, and Trois-Rivières, are a haven of biodiversity, containing several distinct ecosystems (dryland forest, intermediate forest, dense forest) and rare plant species. Approximately thirty bird species nest here, including the pic de la Guadeloupe (“Guadeloupe Woodpecker”) and crested partridge. The mountains also serve as a “rest stop” for hundreds of migratory species.
