Ferry Cove

Beach - Deshaies

Located between Pointe Paul Thomas and Pointe Ferry (gun battery), Ferry Cove features a beautifully maintained and well-lit promenade between shore and highway, offering protection to the business huts of this small township. At the far end of the rocky barrier, a small beach welcomes a few boats. Here, the tradition of seine-net fishing for balao is alive and well, and practiced year-round. The skill of Ferry’s artisan fishermen and boat-builders is renowned. The long vacation season is the time for catching cola, trevally, and billfish. Redfish season begins in August (including snapper and “Big Eye”). Fish traps are also used, set offshore to catch the deep-sea migrations beginning in September. Bream is caught between November and April. The development potential for sport fishing is very good. South of the cove lies charming Leroux Beach, bordered by raisinier (“sea grape”) trees and coconut palms. It welcomes families, tourists, and pleasure boaters.
