Monument - Le Gosier

Located in Bas du Fort, this late 18th-century defensive structure offers a number of features to interest visitors (small fort, powder magazine, dressed stone gate, fortified passage, and more). It has become very popular as a tourist site, due in particular to the magnificent panoramic view that may be had from its ramparts. The scene of bloody combat with British troops fighting under the command of General Grey, it was recaptured by Governor Victor Hugues soon after his arrival in 1794, with the assistance of newly freed slaves. Classified as a historic site, the Fort also hosts cultural activities and exhibitions
