Caraïbes Mountains

Landscape - Vieux-Fort

A distinct geological unit of the Soufrière Mountain Range, the Caraïbes Mountains are the oldest mountains on the island. They rise to 687 meters and include 13.7 sq. m of forests spread across the towns of Vieux-Fort, Gourbeyre and Trois-Rivières. The hiking trails along these mountains mainly cover the upland regions of Vent Soufflé (687 m), Cadet (680 m), Bout Morne (572 m), Boucanier (479 m) and Houëlmont (428 m) and make it possible to cross through a variety of ecosystems — dense forests, dry vegetation with its stunning hedge cactus — and enjoy stunning views The main path leaves from the Vieux-Fort highlands, in front of the water tower, Beausoleil area, to reach Champfleury in Gourbeyre four hours later. The Vieux-Fort highlands are also where the Trace des Alizés, a long-distance trail, begins.
