Beaufond Windmill

Windmill - Anse-Bertrand

Located in Lacroix, visible from National Highway 8, Beaufond windmill bears the name of its owner at the time of its construction. It has a fig tree growing inside it that is said to be “cursed.” The tree has taken over the windmill, however if it is cut down, the windmill will collapse. The gear-works used to run the system run are assembled at the site for eventual restoration. The site of Beaufond windmill is known as a venue for a number of events. The windmill itself is a tapered masonry tower, mounted by a small spherical crown that could be swiveled to face the wind, and supporting blades attached to a horizontal axis. The construction material was stone and brick for the openings, rubble stone for the body of the windmill, and wood for the framing and the blades.
