Night Market

Local Product - Sainte-Anne

The night market is held every Thursday at 6:00 p.m. next to the stadium in Valette at Hermann Songeons Square (named for a former Conseiller Général). A dazzling array of fruits and vegetables, grown mainly in Sainte-Anne’s backcountry (Grands Fonds), is arranged in colorful displays at stalls tended by over 80 vendors. While music plays, mangoes, bananas, local “ti figues,” passion fruit, guavas, yams, sweet potatoes, avocados, breadfruit, and “christophines” (chayotes), each add their touch of color to the scene, exuding fragrances to blend harmoniously with those of the aromatic plants and peppers indispensable to any Antilles dish.
