La Lézarde River

Rivers - Petit-Bourg

La Lézarde River, running 25.5 km long, is named for the sinuous course it carves through the rocks in the commune’s tropical forest. It is one of the longest rivers on the island. It begins at Morne Joffre (or Moustique) hill, which offers a beautiful lookout from its 1,119-meter summit, and descends all the way to Petit Cul-de-Sac Marin bay, with many twists and turns in between. Upstream, the Saut de la Lézarde, a magnificent natural waterfall, may be accessed by footpath from Vernou (Petit-Bourg). Downstream, the river offers areas for canyoning.
