Viard River

River - Sainte-Rose

Descending from the heights of Saint-Val to flow across the Viard sector, this peaceful river empties into Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin Bay in the heart of the mangrove swamp. The area around the mouth of the river features a fisherman’s village with a number of boats at anchor. Coconut palms, mango trees, Poincianas, bilimbi trees, and breadfruit trees line the river, providing shade and privacy for the huts and other houses on its banks. Although fishing is the main activity here, the river is also the starting point for excursions to the nearby islets, deep-sea diving, and tours of the mangrove
