Gédéon-Bambou park

Park - Morne-A-L'Eau

Inaugurated on April 9, 2018, the Gédéon-Bambou park is a multi-purpose place linked to the protection of the environment. Located in an area close to the Canal des Rotours (historical heritage) and on the edge of a swamp forest, it was created thanks to the rehabilitation of the old Gédéon Bambou dump, closed since 2006 and reintegrated into its biological and landscape environment. His new destiny is to become an exemplary place for the discovery, education and protection of wetlands. The Gédéon-Bambou park is included in the public domain maritime and littoral assigned to the Conservatoire du Littoral and is located on a groundwater. The rehabilitation works, which began in 2015, were conducted according to several objectives. The first is of an environmental nature to reduce nuisances that have an impact on health and the environment, particularly with the planting of mangle-medals to restore ecological continuity. The second is social since this park includes an eco-educational course on wetlands, created primarily for schools to educate them about ecology. The park's animation program integrated the development of an Educational Wetland (ZHE) to be managed in a participatory manner by the pupils and teachers of a primary school following the principles defined by a charter. Recreational vocation also residents and users having shown a great interest in the development of playgrounds and recreation areas on the spot. The third component is both economic and ecological, as a photovoltaic power station for the production of electrical energy and the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels is planned. On the course are arranged different explanatory panels on the layout of the area, wetlands, driving etc. It presents on the way several works of the artist Cyril Bordy and the visual artist Félie-Line Lucol who puts his talent in the creation of works of art from objects of recovery. This site is an essential link in the biodiversity conservation and protection policy initiated by the town of Morne-A-l'Eau, recognized in October 2015 Agenda 21 Local France.
