Each Tuesday night, the local farmers of Grande-Terre gather at the “Rotunda” covered market in the center of town to sell fruits and vegetables, spices, punches of all kinds, and prepared foods in a friendly, festive atmosphere. This is your chance to load up on traditional local products grown primarily on the Saint-François plains of Dubedou, Pombiray, and Bragelogne. The fragrance of melons, lettuces, tomatoes, cucumbers, yams, “madères” (taro root), avocadoes, and tropical fruits blends harmoniously with the aroma of spices. The market also features many stands that sell craft objects, baskets, jewelry, carved gourds, decorated coconut shells, and fabrics.
