Saintes Bay

All round view - Terre-de-Haut

By popular acclaim, Terre-de-Haut Island’s Baie des Saintes in the Saintes archipelago, Guadeloupe, has been ranked among “the world’s most beautiful bays.” The town cove and Petite Anse cove are separated only by a wharf, where visitors arrive daily and immediately succumb to the charms of a sublime scene:  boats at anchor on azure waters and little colored houses lining the shore against a backdrop of green hills. Here and there, surprising structures catch the eye, such as the “Maison Bateau“ (“boat house”), in the shape of a boat prow, built by well known Guadeloupe photographer Adolphe Catan. Inaugurated in 1942 as “Bateau des Iles“ (“boat of the islands”), this building was donated to the commune on the condition that it be used to house a doctor deployed to the island. On the other side is its counterpart, the Art Deco "Villa Electra,“ in the form of a boat stern.
