Place Gerty Archimède

Landscape - Morne-A-l'Eau

The square is named after a famous daughter of the town’s active feminist community: Gerty Archimède, a woman who went on to become Guadeloupe’s first female attorney, and who at different times served as departmental councilwoman and Member of Parliament for Guadeloupe. A bust in her honor was unveiled in 2002. In the center of the square sits the war memorial. The large square is a very popular spot with strollers, and it boasts a number of fine country-almond trees that provide welcome shade. It is also home to numerous public events throughout the year.
