Adjacent to the Champ d'Arbaud parade grounds lie the former gardens of the historic British government house, now converted to a stroll. They bear the name of early 20th-century military physician, music-lover, and ardent supporter of Basse-Terre tourism Major André Pichon. In the 1980s, the square was transformed into a lovely park space dedicated to outdoor artistic and cultural events.
