Shell House

Architecture - Basse-Terre

Located on Rue de Nègre-Sans-Peur (“Fearless Negro” street), this 1780 dwelling is among the city’s loveliest old historic houses. It consists of two wings arranged in an “L” shape, connected by a curved staircase with stone banister posts. In the courtyard, out buildings and a creole garden bear witness to the quality of life of the time, in harmony with the indigenous vegetation, which is abundant in the city. This private property is classified as a historic monument.
