Architecture - Capesterre de Marie-Galante

This building was constructed of reinforced concrete in 1932 according to a design by Ali Tur, the architect dispatched to the colonies by the French government to rebuild various public buildings in the wake of the hurricane of 1928. The structure has a square layout, and was renovated in keeping with its original design. Canopies and balconies give relief to the façades, as does a clock tower designed in the oriental style so prized by Ali Tur. The top of the clock tower contains three small bells, a truly original feature. The second floor is square, with a turning masonry staircase featuring landings and openings. The roof is flat.
