The former factory in Pointe-à-Retz

Architecture - Morne à l'Eau

Here is one of the last examples of the Guadeloupe's heyday as a sugar producer. The old factory in Pointe-à-Retz formed part of a 600-hectare plantation that was destroyed during the earthquake of 1843. However, some of the buildings were rebuilt and you can still see the original door with its basket-handle arches. The chimney, a remarkable square-shaped structure built from a mixture of tufa and bricks in four colors, stands over 12 m. high.
