Chapelle Notre-Dame de Jarry is beloved by the people of Guadeloupe, many of whom consider it a place of grace, healing, and… miracles. The Church of Guadeloupe remains non-committal concerning the various claims about the chapel, although Pope Jean-Paul II gave it his Apostolic Blessing in 1999 and mass is still held there regularly. The chapel consists of three buildings, only two of which are open. One is set aside for contemplation of the Immaculate Conception, the other holds hundreds of candles, and many messages written on the walls. There is a freshwater spring nearby, with a pump allowing visitors to fill their bottles with “holy” water.
