Square Guy Cornély

Park - Les Abymes

The public gardens of Square Guy Cornély in Raizet offer a pleasant place to walk and a play area. The square is named after Guadeloupian Guy André Lazart Cornély (born in September 1921 in Pointe-à-Pitre, died on April 26, 2005 in Les Abymes). Cornély was an erudite and passionate man: by turns a soldier, an eminent researcher in biology and botany at the Institut Pasteur, a historian and finally, a writer. Universally described as a popular figure, a man of great humanity and equally great humility, during his lifetime he turned his hand to many different disciplines, including history, literature, music, poetry and the media, always keeping in mind his personal credo that knowledge should be shared.
