Chapelles

Monument - Port-Louis

This neighborhood boasts several chapels, including that of Beauport factory; the two chapels on either side of the “Pont des Morts” (Bridge of the Dead); the private chapel of the Naudillon family in the Souffleur quarter (Wet du Souffleur); the Notre-Dame des Marais chapel at Pointe d'Antigues; and the Pieta chapel that backs onto Barbotteau mill. Built in the 1940s and 1950s, they cater to various religious denominations and remain active places of worship, offerings and thanksgiving. They are often visited by the “Gadèdzafès” (fixer men). The Pieta mill-chapel is dedicated to Saint-Eloi and houses the “Virgin of the Seven Sorrows”.
